Klaus W. Eisenlohr, artist from Berlin, DE, gives insights into his visual research project "Familiar Spaces". He has explored public places and urban space in the metropolitan area of Helsinki, aiming at a depiction of potential social and architectural constructions of urban space.

Also shown will be the results of the artist’s investigation for the "Star of Helsinki?" in the metropolitan area of Helsinki. For this ongoing quest, he is very interested in your responses, which will have influence on the final steps of his research project in Helsinki.

Klaus W. Eisenlohr has been artist-in-residence at HIAP from 1 Oct. - 31 Dec. 2006. He received his MA in photography, filmmaking and conceptual projects from University of the Arts Berlin in 1996. He further received an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, USA. He was part-time faculty member at University of the Arts Berlin, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and he is now working as a freelanced artist and filmmaker based in Berlin. During the last years, Klaus W. Eisenlohr has become interested in the larger metropolitan areas of European Cities: the development of cities, the shape of the European city at the beginning of the 21st century and especially the public space these larger urban areas provide.
